Why Almuñécar?
Almuñécar is about 70 km from Granada and 80 km from Málaga halfway along the coastal strip known as the Tropical Coast, although ‘subtropical’ would be a more appropriate way to describe it.

The town’s name comes from the Arabic Hins-al-Monacar, meaning “town surrounded by mountains”. The subtropical climate in the area is warm and mild ; the average temperature in winter is 18ºC (64ºF) and in summer the average rises to 25ºC(77ºF).

Almuñécar is situated in a fertile green valley where tropical fruits such as mangos, custard apples and avocados grow in abundance.

Almuñécar has managed to conserve the old quarter of the town and the tourist resorts are situated on the shores of Almuñécar’s many beaches (there are 26 in total).
